If you want to know where heat pumps genuinely work in Trafford without a big retrofit argument, it is Hale Barns. The housing here is newer than anywhere else we cover, and newer means better sealed, better insulated, and often already running at the sort of flow temperature a heat pump likes.
Hale Barns is mostly post-war and modern: 1960s and 1970s detached on large plots, a lot of 1990s and 2000s executive housing, and a steady run of new and rebuilt houses out towards Ashley Road and the airport side. Cavity walls, decent glazing, and plots big enough that nobody is arguing about where the outdoor unit goes.
A fair number of the newer houses here already have underfloor heating on at least the ground floor, which is the single best thing that can happen to a heat pump project — underfloor runs happily at 35 degrees, and that is exactly where a heat pump is most efficient. Where the house is 1990s or 2000s with conventional radiators, the flow temperature can usually come down to 45 or 50 with modest rad changes rather than a whole-house rip-out.
